The police in Egypt have arrested Alhaji Tukur Mamu, a media aide to a popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

Mamu, who is the Publisher of Desert Herald, was arrested while on his way to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj, The Punch reported.

He was reportedly detained alongside members of his family at the Cairo International Airport.

Mamu recently stepped down as a negotiator between the abductors and the families of the abducted passengers of the ill-fated Abuja-Kaduna train.

Recall that on March 29, heavily armed gunmen stormed a Kaduna-bound train, killed some passengers, and abducted over 60 others.

The passengers have been released in batches ever since.

On August 17, Mamu raised an alarm that the remaining 27 hostages were sick due to the rainy season.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to expedite action to secure their release so that they can be reunited with their families.
