Ekiti State Government Inaugurates N19.3m Community Projects

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Tuesday inaugurated community-driven N 19.3 million projects executed by the Ekiti State Community Development Agency (EKSCDA).

 

Fayemi, represented by the Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, Mr Funminiyi Afuye; at the event said that his administration would ensure that every school-age child in Ekiti has access to basic education.

 

The governor also said that the projects that were inaugurated in Gboyin and Ekiti East Local Government Areas were to mark his two years in office.

 

The projects executed by the agency include an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at Kota-Ekiti worth N6.2 million and the Community Civic Centre valued N8.5 million respectively in Ekiti East Local Government Area.

 

Also, the 12 lock-up shops, four toilets and a hand-dug well-valued N4.6 million at Iluomoba-Ekiti in Gbonyin LGA.

 

The governor admonished the communities to ensure judicious use of the facilities.

The representative of EKSCDA, Dr Olusegun Ayeni, in his opening remarks said that the projects were community-driven development, in which the people chose that which would positively affect them directly.

 

Ayeni disclosed that the 10 per cent community contributions to each of the projects were their commitment to ownership of the projects.

 

Chief Gabriel Agboola, who spoke on behalf of the community, promised that they would ensure the protection and the maintenance of the facilities.

 

Also inaugurated were the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) projects.

 

The projects include the renovated three blocks of classrooms at Omuo Comprehensive High School, Omuo-Ekiti in Ekiti East LGA, the renovated three blocks of classrooms at St John’s Anglican Nursery and Primary School, Iluomoba, in Gbonyin LGA.

 

Some of the dignitaries at the occasion include the traditional rulers of Kota-Ekiti, Oba Ojo Fagbemi and that of Omuo-Ekiti, Oba Noah Omonigbehin.

 

Mr Lateef Akanle, Mrs Teju Okunyiga, the Chairman of Gbonyin LGA, Mr Ayodeji Fadunmiye and the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Mr Oluwadare Ajayi also attended the inauguration.
