Popular Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has shared her sentiments regarding the mounting pressure she faces from family and friends urging her to get married. The artist, known for hits like “Johnny,” discussed this aspect of her personal life during a recent interview with Cool FM.
Alade, who has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene, expressed her views on the pervasive societal expectation of marriage. Addressing the rumors of her supposed marriage to her manager, she clarified, “People often get married, especially towards the end of every year. I’m not feeling pressured. When the time is right, it will happen.”
The singer acknowledged the challenging nature of family pressure, emphasizing that it comes from individuals she respects and looks up to. Despite the external expectations, Alade asserted her belief that those with her best interests at heart should be patient, recognizing that finding the right life partner is a more crucial endeavor than succumbing to societal pressures.
“Family pressure is a challenging thing to resist because it’s coming from the people I respect and look up to, insisting that I should get married. However, I believe that if they genuinely have my best interests at heart, they will be patient with me because finding the right partner is more crucial than just getting married,” she explained.
Alade concluded by cautioning against rushing into decisions, emphasizing the importance of avoiding the wrong partner.
