Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has appealed to governors of the six states in the South West geopolitical zone and Kwara not to accede to the Federal Government’s plans to establish Fulani herdsmen settlements in their states.

The ex-minister made the appeal in a series of tweets on Thursday.

According to the Federal Government, over 12 states have accepted to host the settlements in their areas.

The Federal Government  on Tuesday said that in the next five years, the establishment of the herdsmen’s settlements would stop open grazing by herdsmen.

Social cultural groups such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Afenifere rejected the planned settlements.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom also rejected the settlements, popularly called Ruga , being proposed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode said, “I am sending a message to the 6 Yoruba Governors of South West Nigeria and Kwara state in North Central, which is a predominantly Yoruba state, through this medium.

“It is my intention to see each of you at some point because I consider you all to be my friends but let me say this much here and now I urge you not to give one inch of Yorubaland to the Fulani herdsmen for settlements.

“If you do you it will be a great betrayal and a costly mistake. I speak as your kinsman, brother and friend and I speak out of love and concern.

“Please take what I am saying very seriously and do not do it under any circumstances.

“May God protect our people and grant us peace and unity in the South West.”
