Olatunji Disu, a seasoned crime burster has been deployed as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced Disu’s appointment in a statement on Thursday morning.

Adejobi in the statement also confirmed that IGP Egbetokun has ordered the redeployment of Nwonyi Emeka from his position as Rivers CP to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Emeka’s redeployment and the appointment of Disu as the new Rivers CP are said to be connected with the political crisis that rocked the state last week.

Recall some protesting youths had demanded that Emeka be redeployed last week following the impeachment saga against the Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The governor, who urged the people to inquire into the motives of such a move, claimed that while he visited the burnt site of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, he was shot at.

Fubara also warned that any attempt to impeach him unjustly will be resisted, emphasising that those behind his impeachment should tell Rivers people about his offence.

Despite the police denying the allegation that they shot at the governore, the IGP yielded the growing calls to reshuffle the Command.

Before his latest appointment, Disu was Head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State.
