Has Lassa Fever Been Curbed In Lagos

A press briefing took place in Lagos where the commissioner for health talked about Lassa fever.

Dr. Jide Idris, the commissioner for health, revealed that 92 people had direct and indirect contact with the index case. They now are subject for monitoring.

A 25-year-old male undergraduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna state, was reported to have fallen ill after arriving in Lagos and was taken to Ahmmadiyyah Hospital, Ojokoro, on January 9 with complaint of fever, sore throats and difficulty in swallowing.

His case was then confirmed to be Lassa fever. Forty people has been put under isolaton because they all had contact with the patient. They would be watched for 21 days before being allowed to mix with the public again.

Members of the public are advised to be very cautious to avoid this epidemic.
