A Lagos based lawyer, Julius Ajibulu has filed a suit before Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court Lagos, asking the State Government to reverse the ban it placed on commercial motorcycles band trycicles, popular known as Okada and Keke in various parts of the State.
Ajibulu told the court that placing a ban on Keke and Okada without a viable replacement has conferred undue hardship on residents, taken away livelihoods from people and contributed to the traffic problems in Lagos State.

Ajibulu also informed the court that the Okada ban created mass unemployment and contributed to the sharp increase in crime and criminality in Lagos state.
The lawyer said the Lagos State Government violated the fundamental rights of residents in the state as guaranteed under sections 33, 34, 34, 36, 38, 41 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution.
He therefore prayed the court to order “the immediate resumption of commercial operations and activities of tricyles (Keke NAPEP/ Marwa) and motorcycles (okada) of 50cc-200cc capacity engine on the above stated highways and expressways through the aforesaid bridges in the above 15 local government and local development council areas of Lagos State.”
He also asked the court to award the sum of N1 billion as damages as well as a public apology to the residents of Lagos from the State Government.
The Court fixed December 15, 2020 for hearing of the suit.
