A man, Nurudeen Nasiru, who introduced a 13-year-old girl to pornography and sexually assaulted her through the anus, has bagged life imprisonment in a Lagos court.

Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court convicted and sentenced Nasiru on Thursday, March 14.

During the trial, prosecution counsel, Mr Olusola Soneye, called three witnesses, a social worker, the survivor, and her father while the convict testified as a sole witness.

According to the prosecutor, the convict committed the offences on February 23, 2021, at about 3.45 pm on Aminu Street, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.

The prosecution also tendered the confessional statement of the convict as an exhibit.

Delivering judgement, Justice Soladoye, held that the convict sexually assaulted the survivor through the anus and also introduced her to pornography.

She also held that the prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt the two counts of defilement and indecent treatment of a child against the convict.

“Nasiru was a neighbour who goes to the room of the survivor and opens his phone to show her pornographic videos and afterwards will force her to practise what he had shown her on his phone.

“Nasiru, in his confessional statement, admitted to having had sexual intercourse with the survivor,” the judge said.

Justice Soladoye further held that the ingredients of the offence of sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child were thoroughly satisfied under Sections 261 and 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

She, therefore, convicted Nasiru of the two counts preferred against him.

“On count one of sexual assault by penetration, Nasiru is sentenced to life imprisonment.

“On count two of indecent treatment of a child, Nasiru is sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

“The sentence should run concurrently, and his name is to be entered in the Sexual Offenders’ Register maintained by the Lagos State Government,” Justice Soladoye ruled.
