Sheik Muttaka Modibbo, an Islamic cleric in Gombe, has called on Muslim faithful to use the Maulud period to pray for sustainable development of the country.

Modibbo told the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Monday, that Nigerians stands in good position of reversing the impact of the economic recession through prayers.

“During the Maulud celebration we expect our people to pray for the nation to get out of the economic woods and into prosperity and peace,” he said.

He urged the Muslims to emulate the practice of Prophet Muhammad towards enjoying a successful life in this World and the Hereafter.

Modibbo said that it is good for every Muslim to exhibit good character at all times; show love to one another and to behave rightfully as directed by the Prophet.

He pointed out that the significance of Maulud is to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad and to honor him as he directed.

According to him, even the Prophet celebrated his birthday by fasting on every Monday, which is the day of his birth and also sacrificed a ram when he was 40 years old.

“This was to show that his birthday is very important to himself and the whole Muslims and it is important for the Muslim to feed families with good dishes,” he said.

Modibbo said during the celebration, people are enlightened on how to show love to the Prophet Mohammed, his family and the recitation of the holy Qur’an among other good deeds. (NAN)
