Mega City: Lagos State To Roll Out 10,000 CCTV Cameras

In keeping up with its ambitions, aspirations and status as one of the top mega cities in the world, the Lagos State Government will be deploying 10,000 CCTV cameras across the state.

State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Akinyemi Ashade disclosed the plans to journalists whilst breaking down the 2016 budget nicknamed the budget of the people.

“We will be expanding our ICT infrastructure statewide. Consequently, a budget of N9.6 billion has been approved for this purpose in 2016. This will include a Smart City project targeted at deploying technology to enhance security in the state”, the commissioner said.

“It will also aid our revenue generating efforts. We will be increasing coverage of CCTV installations in the state. Our goal is to have over 10,000 active cameras, connected by Broadband. The existing 1,000 cameras will be reactivated and these will be increased by an additional 3,000 cameras after the completion of the first phase of this project.”‎he added.

Recall that there have been several reports of robbery and other serious crimes in the metropolitan city for several months now, with the state government urgently seeking solutions to curb the menace of crime.
It is believed that this measure will help to checkmate the activities of the criminals in the state.
