The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said it neither arrested late musician, Mohbad nor gave him anything to drink on February 24, 2022, or any other date.

Director, Media and Advocacy of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi said this in a statement on Saturday, October 7.

The anti-narcotics agency spoke up after the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa said at a press briefing in Lagos on Friday that the NDLEA had not responded to social media allegations bordering on alleged arrest and detention of the late artiste.

In one of the videos that surfaced online after Mohbad’s death, the musician alleged that he was arrested by NDLEA operatives at the instigation of his then-record label, Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley.

He further claimed that he was given a liquid substance to drink by operatives of the anti-narcotics agency.

Babafemi said that NDLEA’s response to police request for information concerning the purported arrest was sent and received by the police since Thursday, September 28.

He reiterated that NDLEA’s formal response dated Thursday, September 28, was sent by flight to Lagos, delivered and received by the police the same day.

He also shared a copy of the acknowledged letter.

“We also heard the unsubstantiated allegation on social media that Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, aka MohBad, was arrested and detained by NDLEA on the 24th of February 2022 and given a substance to drink.

“In response to this allegation, we wish to state categorically that MohBad was never arrested neither was he ever detained in the custody of the NDLEA on the said date or any other date before or after.

“The foregoing being the case, the issue of giving him any substance to drink does not arise,” the NDLEA’s statement read.
