Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) on Thursday described the move by some PDP stalwarts in the South-West to resolve the party’s leadership crisis as a “good omen.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governors Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo and Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, had on July 23, met with the aggrieved party leaders from Lagos, Oyo and Osun States to resolve issues alleged to have divided the party in the region.
According to the lawmakers, only reconciliation and unity will bring the party out of its present leadership crisis.
A lawmaker, Mr Victor Akande, representing Ojo Constituency I, at the Assembly said; “This reconciliation is a good radiance in the right direction. It is a welcome idea and it is long overdue.
“This is what the leadership of the party in the South-West should have done initially instead of throwing blames and calling one another names.
” The coming together of Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and Sen. Buruji Kasamu, to end the leadership crisis tearing the party in the South-West apart is a welcome idea.
“They have to nip the problem in the bud.
“This is good, it is a good omen for the party and the party will become strong again as we look toward 2019 elections.”
Akande, who, described the leadership problem in Lagos State chapter of the party as “peculiar”, said that the crisis had almost destroyed the party.
He noted; “Let us resolve all issues quickly and amicably. Let’s appease everybody and beg everybody so that peace will come back to the party.
“If we don’t resolve the problem in Lagos, there is a danger. All of us can work together when there is unity.
“We need to address the issue holistically and it should not be winner takes it all. Whoever is leading should be magnanimous.”
The lawmaker urged the stalwarts of the party to give room for young ones to lead the party.
He also advised aggrieved leaders to sheath their swords for the party to remain strong ahead of the yet-to-be-announced date of local government polls in the state.
According to him, the party needs visionary leaders who will be generally acceptable; a crowd puller with financial muscle and capability.
Also speaking, Mr Jude Idimogu, representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II at the Assembly, said that only unity would help the party to return to power in 2019.
“The reconciliation is a good one for the party. PDP will come out strong if we are united. Let’s end the crisis and move on. Let’s work together in unity.
“It is better to be one than to be divided. This meeting of the party stakeholders is a good omen. Let the South-West come together,” Idimogu told NAN.
He said that he was looking forward for a vibrant, strong and an articulate leadership at the forthcoming national convention of the party slated for Aug. 17 in Port Harcourt, Rivers.
The lawmaker, however, said that the crisis rocking the party was a necessary revolution that would help it to be strong again, adding that the crisis would soon end.
He urged party stalwarts aspiring to lead the party to sacrifice for one another in the interest of the party. (NAN)
