OCI Foundation, an NGO, on Tuesday donated COVID-19 preventive items and writing materials to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Abuja chapel.

The Team Leader of the Foundation, Mrs Felicia Dagu made the presentation on Tuesday at the FRCN Headquarters in Abuja.
Dagu said that the customised face masks would help protect the staff of the Corporation as they continue their duties in the service of their fatherland.
” We encourage you all to use these masks from now on, both during official hours and elsewhere.”
Dagu urged journalists to complement the actions of the Federal Government and other health care agencies by helping to encourage Nigerians to comply with COVID-19 preventive measures.
She appealed to Nigerians to comply with the preventive measures, stressing that some people were still ignorant of the threat of COVID-19.
The Chairman of NUJ, FRCN chapel, Mrs Sandra Udeike said there had been reported cases of media personnel, who have contracted the disease, adding the Chapel requested for strong collaboration with Foundation in fighting COVID-19 through the donation of preventive items.
” This visit by the OCI to our Chapel is indeed an indication that the organisation is out to genuinely assist the authorities in checking the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and beyond.
“It is no longer news as we see daily the spike in the number of infections and deaths from the disease.
” It is also unfortunate that despite these worrying figures, millions of Nigerians are still in denial of this dreaded disease and have vehemently described it as a hoax,” she said.
She said journalists were front liners, who stake their lives daily to tackle the pandemic, adding that apart from health workers, the next most vulnerable essential workers were the media personnel.
“It points to the fact that precautions to check the spread of the pandemic and mass sensitisation and mobilisation of Nigerians to fight COVID-19 is never too much and these matters require funding and logistics to be effective,” Udeike said.
