The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has stated that the agitations for justice and equality in the South East are a result of the unfair treatment of the region.
He made this known to newsmen through his brother, Prince Emmanuel, after meeting with him at his solitary confinement at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS.
The IPOB leader noted that the people of the Southeast have always desired to be treated fairly and rightly and have therefore decided to take the bull by the horns and demand equality.
According to him, the goal of the region remains to demand a referendum that will determine if the people want to remain in the country, which, according to him, has always treated them in an unkind manner for decades, maintaining that they will continue to clamour for their demand of secession unless those opposing the wholesome restructuring of the country repent.
Nnamdi Kanu further noted that every plea to return the country to the 1963 constitution has sadly fallen on deaf ears, and that has left them no choice but to find any avenue that would guarantee a safe future for the coming generation, adding that there is no regret whatsoever articulating a better future for the progeny of the South East.
He noted that it would be an act of betrayal to the people if they continued to wobble along with the 1999 unitary constitution designed, written, and given by unelected soldiers.
He also reiterated that he is not opposed to a genuine restructuring of the country, stating that the country will not be able to grow or make progress under the current unworking unitary structure.
