Osinbajo Reacts to National Assembly Takeover By DSS

3 Min Read

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, has hit out at the fracas that took place at the premises of the National Assembly earlier today.

In a widely circulated video released earlier today, the National Assembly was blocked by members of the  Department of State Services (DSS) who refused people from going in.

In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, Acting President Osinbajo is less than impressed by the move by the DSS and has referred to it as a ‘gross violation of constitutional order’

The statement reads:

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has described the unauthorized takeover of the National Assembly complex earlier today as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order.

According to him, the unlawful act which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency is condemnable and completely unacceptable.

By this statement, Professor Osinbajo is consequently assuring Nigerians that all persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action.

It seems the Acting President has already acted on this matter with the announcement that the Director General of the DSS,  Lawal Musa Daura, has been relieved of his duties.

Meanwhile, former aide to President Jonathan, Reno Omokri has reacted to the sacking of the DSS director general by acting President Yemi Osinbajo stating that it was ‘Godly Wisdom’

In a Facebook post, Omokri stated that the move was a welcome one and that he hoped it wasn’t a case of Daura getting reinstated once Buhari returns.

Read what he said below:

Vice President Osinbajo used Godly wisdom to sack Daura. According to my sources, Osinbajo first of all summoned the DG DSS to his office at exactly 1:15 PM. While he was still talking to Lawal Daura, Laolu Akande was directed to release a statement announcing his sack in true mafiosi style! However, it is not yet uhuru. Nigerians recall that the NHIS boss, Usman Yusuf, was suspended for corruption by Osinbajo when President Buhari traveled to London only to be reinstated by Buhari when he returned to Nigeria. This must not be the case with the sacked DSS DH. He must go, never to return again!
