Osun Re-run: SDP Dissociate Party from Omisore’s alliance with APC

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has described as shameful the decision of Sen. Iyiola Omisore to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Thursday’s rerun election in Osun.

According to a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode disclosed that Omisore, whom he described as his cousin, earlier pledged his support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sen. Ademola Adeleke before turning to the APC.

Omisore, who is the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the gubernatorial election, became the toast of both APC and PDP after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared a rerun in seven polling units, majority of which fall under his area of influence.

Recall that INEC had declared the gubernatorial election as inconclusive after it said the difference between both leading parties was less than the total number of cancelled votes in some polling units.

The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Fuwape then ordered a rerun in the seven affected polling units.

Not long after the electoral body declared its decision, Fani-Kayode disclosed that he had spoken with his “cousin” Omisore and he had agreed to work with the PDP.

However, Omisore today announced his support for the APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

Speaking on the change in Omisore, Fani-Kayode said, “Iyiola Omisore’s decision to support the APC in tomorrow’s rerun is shameful. It is sad that he would seek to deny Ile-Ife the position of Deputy Governor simply for money. He told me he would stand firm two days ago and he told our father Baba Ayo Adebanjo the same thing last night.

“I do not know what has turned his head but we shall forge ahead and by God’s grace Adeleke will win. There is no excuse or justification for joining or supporting those who treated our people like filth and slaves over the last 8 years and who rigged last Saturday’s election.”
