Panic has spread among inmates and staff members of the prison facility in Owerri, Imo state over the escape of two inmates of the Owerri Federal Prison.

Speaking on the escape of the two inmates who are still serving jail terms, a staff member of the prison disclosed that the inmates escaped the facility by scaling the fence.

“The escapees took the advantage of the ongoing building construction in the male section of the facility to abscond.”

Speaking further on the escape, the staff member revealed that the inmates who escaped must have been members working with the construction team on the site.

“I believe that the plan was hatched by the male inmates who were working at the construction site.

“Their escape has caused serious panic in the prison. There are fears that heads will roll if the convicts are not found.”

The prison staff added: “They scaled the fence, while work was going on in the male section of the prison. We believe that most of the male prisoners planned and facilitated the escape.”
