Popular Nigerian music duo, Ajebo Hustlers, have sparked debate in the industry with a fiery message urging their fellow artists to prioritize creating music with “depth.” Taking to their social media platform, Ajebo Hustlers challenged their peers to strive for more meaningful content.
In their post, they specifically called out a lack of perspective in some music, suggesting that artists should use singer Omah Lay as a benchmark for quality. Ajebo Hustlers implored their colleagues to consider, “what would Omah Lay say if he hopped on this record?” emphasizing the importance of substance.
They further criticized a trend of talented artists “dumbing down” their creativity to gain popularity. Ajebo Hustlers suggested that this pandering to a preference for mediocrity is hindering the artistic growth of the music scene.
