Pay Super Falcons’ allowances, sports enthusiasts tell NFF

Some sports enthusiasts in Saki, Oyo State, on Tuesday appealed to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to pay allowances of the Super Falcons, who have just won the continental championship.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some members of the squad in Abuja on Monday threatened to occupy the National Assembly if their allowances and bonuses were not paid.

Speaking with NAN in separate interviews, some sports lovers said the development was “very sad and avoidable.”

Mutiu Ismail, a club owner, said “I salute the Super Falcons for the achievements especially their very hard fought victories over strong opponents before winning the trophy.

“It is very sad and disheartening that people went through stress to make us proud and eventually won the biggest prize on the continent only for them to be treated unfairly.

“I am of the view that allowances and bonuses of these players and their handlers should be paid as early as possible,“ he said.

Mr Ishola Arikose, also a club owner, appealed for quick resolution of the matter saying, “this situation can discourage our young men and women from giving their best to the services of their nation. “

Mr Gabriel Best, a football fan, also appealed for quick payment of the allowances to the players and their trainers.

“It is very sad and I don’t really know what to say, how can people struggle that much and the country is not even recognising their efforts? “ he asked. (NAN)
