The United States Department of Justice has said there is still a live warrant for the arrest of Buruji Kashamu in the North American country.

This is contrary to claims by the PDP chieftain that he is not a fugitive of the law anywhere in the world.

The charges Kashamu is facing in the USA center around drug smuggling involving the hard narcotics, heroin.

An email from Randall Samborn, Public Information Officer of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago says, “There is still a warrant for his arrest in the United States, and the case remains pending.”

Samborn added that “Last week, his attorneys filed a new motion to dismiss the indictment in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and that is set for a status hearing on Jan. 31, at which time the Court will likely set a briefing schedule for both sides to submit written arguments before any decision is made.”

The US attorney’s office had earlier said, ”Mr. Kashamu is still wanted on charges alleging his drug ring moved millions of dollars’ worth of heroin from Europe and Southeast Asia through O’Hare International Airport during the 1990s.”

Kashamu is the PDP’s go to guy in the South West, a region where the ruling party controls only one state out of six.
