PDP Tasks INEC To Redeem Image With Conduct Of Off-Cycle Elections

2 Min Read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the November 11 governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states in a way that would help the Commission to regain its image in the country.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who said this on Sunday in Abuja, also demanded the transfer of the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Prof. Sylvia Agu.

According to the party, the off-cycle election is a golden opportunity for INEC to redeem its already battered image due to its conduct in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on INEC’s promise to fully use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, and the Result Viewing portal, IREV, to upload election results, Ologunagba said the PDP would hold INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, directly responsible and accountable for his pronouncements.

“The INEC Chairman must note that the integrity of an election process is directly relation to the confidence of the electorate.

“These elections present INEC with a golden opportunity to redeem its largely battered image by-product of the 2023 elections,” he stated.

On his demand that the Imo REC be transferred, Ologunagba said that the REC is compromised and would assist the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state instead of carrying out his assignment as an independent body.

“The PDP, for the umpteenth time, demands the immediate removal of the openly compromised Imo State INEC REC, Prof. Sylvia Agu. She is a direct relation of a national officer of the APC and there are allegations that she is being further compromised to assist the APC to rig the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.”
