The Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu to hand over power to to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa following his ill-health and prolonged absence.

The Herald reports that the party demanded that Governor Akeredolu transfer power to his deputy to ensure the continuity of governance.

Fatai Adams, the state chairman of PDP, expressed these concerns in Akure while addressing the current situation in the Sunshine State.

Adams accused a governmental cabal of exploiting the governor’s health challenges and prolonged absence to engage in nefarious activities within the administration.

Adams lamented, “We are deeply concerned about the ruinous cost the health challenge of the governor has bestowed upon the state, the most obvious is the emergence of a cabal, largely informal that has seized every initiative, mindlessly driving our state to penury.”

Highlighting the absence of clear leadership in the state government, Adams emphasised the need for the governor to hand over power to his deputy.

He raised alarm over the state’s financial resources being misappropriated by interest groups both inside and outside the government.

Calling for decisive action, Adams urged Akeredolu to heed the advice he once gave to late former President Umar Yar’Adua, encouraging him to transmit power to the deputy governor to focus on his health.

He referenced Akeredolu’s past statement, “No matter how much you love your country, it should not be at the detriment of your health.”

Adams concluded by underscoring the urgency of the situation and the constitutional provisions for such circumstances, insisting that the deputy governor should assume responsibilities in the governor’s absence.

Governor Akeredolu has been residing at his private residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, since returning from a medical vacation in Germany in September this year, prompting calls for his return and debates about his capacity to govern.
