PSG defeat Barcelona 3-2

David Luiz became the first player to score against Barcelona this season as Paris Saint-Germain beat the Spanish side 3-2 in Paris.

The French Champions have not been beaten at home in the Champions League since 2004 and they continued their run in a five-goal thriller.

They took the lead on the 11th minute thanks to a goal from David Luiz, Dani Alves was penalised for a handball and Lucas Moura’s free-kick dropped to Luiz who swept it past the goalkeeper.

Within a minute, the visitors were level.

The luminous yellow shirts charged forward and Messi and Andres Iniesta played a wall pass inside the area with the Argentine finishing past Salvatore Sirigu for his 68th Champions League goal.

This was Barcelona’s 500th goal in the European Cup and Messi is now second in the all-time list within three of Raul’s record.

Messi created Barca’s next real chance with a lofted pass that Neymar stretched to reach ahead of PSG’s Goalkeeper, he got there first but couldn’t keep his shot down.

From so nearly taking the lead, Barcelona went behind again when Jordi Alba lost possession which led to a corner. And from Thiago Motta’s kick Marco Verratti scored at the far post.

The game remained open for the rest of the first half to the excitement of David Luiz, he had one run down the right wing, a run down the left wing and there was some high stakes defending, but he had scored one of the goals that sent his team down the tunnel with a 2-1 lead at half time.

In the second half, PSG were doubling teaming Jordi Alba with Lucas Moura and Gregory van der Wiel on Barca’s left and the home side crossed a ball from the right for Blaise Matuidi to score PSG’s third.

Barca came back again, just like the first half, inside a minute with Alves’ cross was converted by Neymar to make it 3-2.

Despite having an excellent defensive record so far this season in all competitions, their frailties emerged again as both Edison Cavani and Javier Pastore had the chance to extend PSG’s lead.

PSG were without Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to heel injury but he was in attendance for the game as well as some notable celebrities.
