"It's eye service" - Reno Omokri bashes Peter Obi for celebrating Christmas with IDPs

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has flayed the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi for celebrating Christmas with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Makurdi, Benue State.

Obi had also donated N3 million for the upkeep of the displaced persons in the IDP.

While addressing the IDPs, the LP candidate urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to make the displaced persons’ ancestral homes conducive for resettlement, adding that Nigerians have no business staying in IDP camps

But reacting in a Facebook post on Monday, Omokri accused Obi of “eye service”, saying the former Anambra governor had no record of doing such before the 2023 electioneering season.

Omokri said that unlike Obi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has a history of identifying with the Nigerian masses.

He added that Atiku surpassed his leading challengers in terms of catering for the underprivileged in Nigerian society.

He recounted how the former vice president donated millions to the Federal Government towards combating the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

According to Omokri, Atiku has also generously donated various sums and items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country.

Omokri said, “When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Waziri Atiku donated ₦50 million to the Nigerian government to help protect ALL Nigerians from the scourge on March 25, 2020. He was the FIRST leader to donate. Tinubu donated 5 days later. Peter Obi only donated to Anambra state for Anambra people, not to the Federal Government. Please, before you insult me, go and verify.

“In 2023, vote for a frontline national leader, who loves all Nigerians. Do not vote for a regional leader, who believed in helping only his own people, until election period, when he rushes to spend Christmas with IDPs as eye service!

“IDPs have existed in Nigeria for over 10 years, and I have personally donated money to them many years ago. Again, go and verify. But I have never heard of Peter Obi donating items to them until now. Why now? Why now? Why not when they actually needed you most Peter? Why now?”
