An American man has been sentenced to 35 years in jail for robbing an elderly couple, beating them up and displaying the booty on Facebook.
The 21-year-old DeAndre Bryant of Houston, Texas was said to have invaded the home of a 70-year-old and his wife and pulled a gun on them in company of his friend Greg Young.
The District Attorney’s office released a statement saying the duo first attacked the man outside his home, dragged him inside and then held the couple at gunpoint while the men, who had their faces covered, ransacked the victims home.
Furthermore, the DA’s office said the robbers escaped with $12,000 in cash, some guns and the couple’s truck – which amounts to more than $56,000 put together. They took pictures of the cash and uploaded it on Facebook.
However, luck ran out on them when a passerby saw them throwing a latex glove they had been wearing inside a nearby parking lot and took a picture of the car the men came with, which detectives were able to trace to Bryant’s girlfriend.
The picture helped in the investigation and the latex glove provided DNA evidence that linked to Bryant.
He was sentenced on Monday after being charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. He is also expected to help authorities in February 2016 when Young goes on trial for the same crime.
