The Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that the suspended Central Bank Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi gave the All Progressives Congress N1 billion to set up offices nationwide.

The allegation has been denied by Mallam Sanusi, however the PDP is adamant that the funds were channeled to APC leaders through the award of contracts, and has called for a probe of CBN accounts from 2009 till date.

In a statement released by PDP National Spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh on Sunday, the party demanded that such an audit  must establish and publish all movements of funds from the CBN accounts such as contract sums, donations and other extra-budgetary spending under Sanusi.

Metuh said investigations by the party revealed that  “siphoned CBN money was surreptitiously diverted to them (APC leaders) by the suspended CBN governor.”

He also revived the allegation that N48 bn contract was goven to an APC leader whilst another N5 bn was given to another APC member as a consultancy fee.

Metuh said the CBN diverted “N1bn to the APC to open offices across the nation in addition to N100m donated  to some leaders of the APC to fund their activities last year.

Metuh also called for a probe of the N150 bn development donations granted by the CBN under Mallam Sanusi stating that for instance Bayero University officials claimed to only have received N1 bn out of the N4 bn the CBN said it donated to the organization.

Responding to Metuh’s statements, the Interim Publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said he wondered if it was wrong for any Nigerian to receive a contract from a public institution. He did also mention that he was unaware of any such contracts.

Mohammed said, “It is an allegation that can only come from a daft person aiming at distracting Nigerians from the real issue of the missing $20bn.

“We don’t know of any of our members that got contracts from the CBN, but this can only be an issue if such contract were not executed.”
