A sociopolitical commentator, Sanusi Dantata, has attracted criticism over his comment about the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu authorised the suspension of Emefiele last Friday.

The embattled CBN governor was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after.

Reacting to the development, Dantata said Emefiele’s travails called for “national celebration”.

“Just a few of his many transgressions: He met Naira at around 160, it’s now 760+. Blamed Aboki FX for it. Allowed reckless Ways and Means spending. Superintendent of the greatest Arbitrage of $ against the Naira. Innocent ppl/businesses suffered during the botched Naira redesign policy. The policy failed woefully. Many businesses have not yet recovered. Claimed it was “cashless policy.” Everyone and their grandmother knew it was for the elections and allegedly to stop one particular candidate. That failed! Cash was still used during the elections (also, “Taliya and Atamfa” were used – that’s another story!)

“Goodbye Elemiewele, I wonder who’s next among the old cabal? Jagaban is serious! DSS is serious!

“Nigeria is Rising!” Dantata also wrote on Twitter.

However, the entrepreneur and engineer was criticised for his take on the matter, with critic, @nnamexi accusing him of playing the average Northerners’ game of absolving fellow northerner, President Muhammadu Buhari of atrocities committed under him while blaming his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan for similar atrocities committed under him.

@nnamexi wrote, “I really love northerners… It used to be GEJ responsible for naira decline until it was Buhari’s time, the responsibility returned to CBN. Then it was NOI until Zainab happened and then we didn’t hear anything again .. All blame must go to Emefiele. Theirs is to deflect.”
