Steven Gerrard has revealed that he still thinks about the ‘cruel’ slip against Chelsea during the 2013-14 season when Liverpool were close to winning the Premier League.
Demba Ba pounced on the loose ball and raced through on goal to score as Jose Mourinho’s team won 2-0 at Anfield; a draw (after leading 3-0 with 11 minutes to go) at Crystal Palace just over a week later was another body blow as Brendan Rodger’s title-chasers eventually ended up second just two points behind champions Manchester City.
Before that Chelsea game Liverpool had won 11 in a row, including brilliant victories over City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal, and had not lost in 18 games, playing a brilliant brand of attacking football led by Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

Speaking to former England team-mate Rio Ferdinand as part of ‘Rio Meets Steven Gerrard’, which will air on BT Sport tonight at 10pm on BT Sport 1, Gerrard also admitted that tactical inexperience cost them in a highly pressurised run-in.
“Well I think that game against Chelsea with the slip and I think our tactical approach was probably inexperienced for the whole game. Going out to try and blow Chelsea away,” said the 35-year-old.
“A lot of teams we played prior to that game, we’re blowing them away comfortably. Suarez and Sturridge were on fire. [Raheem] Sterling was coming in. I was in good form myself and we got to the Man City game and it was a little bit… we were in front controlling it, then we were on the back foot and we managed to get over the line.
