In a recent Instagram story, Temmie Ovwasa, popularly known as YBNL Princess, offered a detailed account of her experiences while being associated with YBNL Nation and the circumstances that led to her departure from the label. The singer’s disclosure comes in the wake of singer Mohbad’s accusations against his label boss, Naira Marley, and his subsequent passing.
Temmie Ovwasa, who signed a record deal with YBNL Nation in August 2015, eventually severed ties with the label in 2020 due to disagreements with the label’s founder, Olamide. The former YBNL signee highlighted that while Olamide appeared supportive publicly, her time at the label was marked by minimal artistic output, having produced only four songs in her five-year tenure.
The singer revealed that a lack of a functional structure within the label led to a challenging experience. She particularly emphasized the treatment she received from Olamide’s wife, who made her run errands and subjected her to disrespectful treatment. Temmie expressed her struggle with such dynamics, feeling the need to comply with demeaning requests to navigate her path in the music industry.
In her post, Temmie Ovwasa recounted her early aspirations in the music industry, underscoring her journey from her hometown to Lagos to pursue a singing career. However, the reality she faced at YBNL was vastly different, where the absence of a clear label structure and ill-treatment left her feeling disillusioned.
She also hinted at undisclosed political affiliations within the label that left her uncomfortable, unable to openly voice her concerns for fear of adverse consequences. The singer condemned the prevalent toxic environment in the music industry, acknowledging the tragic passing of Mohbad and expressing her hope that the young artist finds peace.
