The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has been accused of plotting a coup against the Kaduna State Government.
This accusation was made by a group known as ‘Kaduna state citizens for peace’.
The group made the allegation at a mass rally organized in Kaduna state on July 18.
In a statement signed by the it’s president and national secretary, Richard Augustine and Nathaniel Agada, the group said the rally was organised to ensure that there is no room for religious extremism in Kaduna state.
“We also want security agencies to be put on notice by this our rally on who should be held responsible for any breach of the peace committed by the IMN,” the group said.
The group called for justice for soldiers who lost their lives during the Shiite-Army clash in Zaria, Kaduna state.
They frowned at the request made by the IMN’s lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Femi Falana (SAN) who asked the Kaduna State Government to persecute soldiers that clashed with the IMN group.
“The so called request is depending on the Judicial Commission of Inquiry that His Excellency, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai set to investigate the Zaria clash.
“It is the same commission that the leadership and membership of IMN refused to testify before. We therefore find it ridiculous that they want the same panel report to be used as a basis for trial,” the group said.
