The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has reacted to a June 2023 petition written by now-deceased music artiste, Oladimeji Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, in which he alleged a threat to his life.

The Herald earlier reported that Mohbad died on Tuesday and was buried in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on Wednesday.

Since news of his death became public knowledge, the musician has been trending on social media, especially X, where records of his public fallout with his former record label boss, Naira Marley and his associates have continued to emerge.

One of the records currently circulating on the social media platform is a petition dated June 27, 2023, and addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The petition was titled, “Petition of Threat to Life, Malicious Damage of Properties Valued the Sum of Five Million Naira, Assault Occasioning Harm, Oppression and Conduct Likely To Cause Breach of Peace Against Samlarry Elegushi, Elele, Obele and Others”.

Sam Larry is a known associate of Naira Marley, who owned Marlian Music record label that Mohbad was signed to until 2022, this newspaper gathered.

In the petition, Mohbad alleged that on June 25, 2023, while shooting a music video with a fellow musician known as Zlatan Ibile, the trio of Samlarry Elegushi, Elele, Obele and others stormed the premises with dangerous weapons including guns and cutlasses and “scattered the whole process of the shooting”.

During the invasion, he said, a N5 million equipment being used for the video shoot was damaged and his life was threatened by the invaders.

He added, “In the process, they became violent and assaulted me which (sic) I sustained injuries but narrowly escaped”.

The artiste noted that he attached pictures 0f the incident to the petition.

Mohbad stressed that he paid a non-refundable N8 million for the video shoot that went down the drain due to the invasion.

He called on the AIG in charge of the FCID Annex to use his good offices to protect him from harm and bring the alleged perpetrators to book.

Sharing a copy of the petition which was acknowledged at the AIG’s office, an X user, @PureMinD__ called the attention of the Lagos police command spokesman to it.

“Mohbad actually reported the Sam Larry led assault and threat to his life to the Police and they did nothing? No wonder the PROs have been quiet like a grave yard. We hear you and your men loud and clear!!! @BenHundeyin,” the Twitter user wrote.

Reacting, Hundeyin clarified that, “The @LagosPoliceNG is headed by a Commissioner of Police.

“This petition was taken to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos office, headed by a superior officer, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.”
