In a huge blow to the LGBTQ community, Twitter owner, Elon Musk says “cis” or “cisgender” are considered slurs on this platform.

Musk said this on Wednesday while reacting to Commentator and Co-founder of Thoughtful Therapists, James Esses’ tweet about being bullied by trans activists for refusing to be called a cisgendered man.

In a Tuesday tweet, Esses said, “Yesterday, after posting a Tweet saying that I reject the word ‘cis’ and don’t wish to be called it, I receive a slew of messages from trans activists calling me “cissy” and telling me that I am ‘cis’ “whether or not I like it”.

“Just imagine if the roles were reversed.”

Reacting to the tweet, Musk warned that “repeated, targeted harassment against any account will cause the harassing accounts to receive, at minimum, temporary suspensions.”

The billionaire added, “The words “cis” or “cisgender” are considered slurs on this platform.”

“Cisgender” is a term used by transgender people to refer to people who identify as the gender they were assigned at birth.

Twitter’s hateful conduct policy does not make mention of the specific term. “We prohibit targeting others with repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category,” the policy reads.

Musk often shares content about trans people; some of the content is considered transphobic by trans activists.
