A 300-level Accounting student of the University of Lagos, identified as Miss Oluchi Anekwe has been electrocuted on the university campus.

The incident was said to have occurred around 7:30 pm on Tuesday at New Hall, an environment housing blocks of student accommodation on the university campus.

THE HERALD spoke with an eyewitness who craved for anonymity said, the late Oluchi was on a call while walking towards the chapel for an evening mass when sudden electrical discharges from a high-tension pole overhead made one of the wires to cut, hitting her in the process.

When the incident happened, no one was able to go close to rescue Oluchi until a brave young man against all odds managed to free her.

She was said to have been rushed to the Medical Center within the university alive but was not immediately attended to as the medical personnel were inquiring for her ID to ascertain whether she was a student or not. This sparked anger amongst the student.

Moments after the incident occurred, unsuspecting students were said to have resumed plying the road, probably oblivious of what had just happened.

This was said to have been caused by the failure of the university authorities to condone off the area from human traffic, a move which made students of the university to express their anger on social media channels Facebook and Twitter.

It was further gathered that the students on several occasions had brought to the notice of the school management of the incessant sparking of the electrical poles and Oluchi is sadly the first casualty.

As at the time of filing this report, the students have begun a candle light procession which started some few minutes past 7 pm
