Wakili: Arrested OPC members secure freedom

The Oyo State Police Command has released the three members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) detained in connection with the arrest of Fulani warlord, Isikilu Wakili.

Recall that OPC and members of local vigilante groups stormed Kajola community in Ibarapa area of Oyo State to arrest Wakili, who has been described as a mastermind of kidnappings and Fulani herdsmen aggression in the Ibarapa axis of the state.

The police detained the trio following reports that a woman named Tande was killed when the OPC and local vigilante members stormed Wakili’s abode.

The OPC members had been detained since Sunday but secured their freedom at the Iyaganku Police Station on Tuesday around 5.40pm.

The release of the detainees followed the intervention of the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde and Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams.

OPC Coordinator in Oyo State, Rotimi Oguntunde was on hand to receive the released detainees.

Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Akeem Ige also witnessed the release of the three OPC members.
