The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for November 26th governorship election in Ondo State, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has promised commercial drivers in the state not to intervene in their union politics if elected.

He made this known at the weekend while meeting with some concerned drivers at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Akeredolu who was represented at the meeting by his running mate, Hon, Agboola Ajayi and the Director General of his campaign Platform, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan said as a true democrat, the incessant government interference in the activities of drivers, traders, labour and student unions worries him.

“I want to promise you that a vote for me is a vote for your freedom. I love freedom and I won’t do any thing to infringe on the freedom of anyone. If you support me and I triumph, I won’t select your union leaders for you.

“They are your leaders; they are to represent you, not me, therefore you should be the one to elect those who you want. I will make sure democracy is entrenched in your Union.

“I am a democrat to the core therefore I believed that leadership should not be imposed. If I intervene in your election and my stooge wins, how would they protect your interest? God willing, If I win, Drivers, Students, Traders and labour union will have their freedom.

Speaking Further, Akeredolu said: “I won’t muddle your leaders against you. I wont cage their conscience to act against you. Your Union leaders should be able to speak truth to me when God forbid, I am not doing well and also praise me when I am doing well. That is the kind of leaders I want for you.” He said.
