You can only contest after a year in APC – Oshiomhole declares

Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that only those who have spent at least one year in the party are qualified to contest an election on its platform.

Oshiomhole disclosed this on Wednesday night while inaugurating the governorship screening committee for Bayelsa and Kogi states elections.

According to him, aside those who have spent at least one year, others who have spent less would require a waiver from the National Working Committee (NWC) to contest.

Oshiomhole’s stance is believed to be a veil reference to one of the governorship aspirants, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the Cross Rivers Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Frankland Briyal.

Briyal joined the APC about two weeks ago when he resigned from his position at the electoral body to contest the governorship election in Bayelsa State on the platform of the APC.

But Oshiomhole said it would be unfair to hand the party’s flag to those who just joined when there are well-entrenched members of the party angling for the governorship seats in the aforementioned states.

He said the August 29 primaries of the party would take place simultaneously in Lokoja and Yenagoa.

Also speaking, the committee chairman, Senator Hope Uzordinma, expressed gratitude to the party for reposing confidence on members of the committee, adding that they would discharge their assignment without fear or favour.
