#AkwaIbom2015: ‘Akpabio reckless for pronouncing death on gubernatorial aspirants’ – Awak

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state has ruffled a lot of feathers after he declared that those seeking to be elected governor outside his endorsement were looking for death.

The Governor had made the statement at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat in Uyo last week.

Reacting to the Governor’s comments, former Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom State, Ita Awak, said the Governor was irresponsible and reckless.

Awak said, “I am shocked to hear that this kind of statement is coming from the governor of my state. Shock because I cannot understand how the chief security officer of the state, somebody that has been nationally decorated as the Commander of the Order of the Niger, Somebody who is supposed to be an epitome of decorum and patriotism, can make such comment.

“How he can allow his inordinate desire to unilaterally impose somebody on Akwa Ibom to allow him make such a reckless and irresponsible statement. It is irresponsible to the extreme for the governor to publicly, in the present of the PDP National Chairman, say whoever wants to be governor without his endorsement is going to die, or those who wants to come to the government house without his blessing are going to die”.

Awak added, “First and foremost, where does Governor Akpabio call the backdoor? He has not defined to us what he calls the backdoor because as far as the struggle for the hilltop mansion is concerned, there is nothing like the backdoor. But considering the way he has conducted himself so far, it would appear to me that what he calls the back door has to do with those who are going into the 2015 governorship outside his endorsement.

“It is unbelievable, I do not know what now happens to Godswill Akpabio that he goes around to exhibit the very negative part of what psychologists call the Jehovah complex. It is very unfortunate that our governor would threaten us, Akwa Ibom citizens, with death.

“It did not happen in Attah’s time, when 58 governorship aspirants roamed the nooks and crannies of this state in 2006/2007, appealing to Akwa Ibom citizens to support them to take over from Obong Victor Attah”.
