……….. says no one should urge him to preach the Gospel while poverty ravages the land

The Vice Presidential running mate the opposition of All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has laid to rest fears entertained by many Nigerians that a Buhari government would Islamise Nigeria by declaring that General Muhammadu Buhari would not in any way turn Nigeria to an Islamic country.

Osinbajo stated this while addressing the Plateau Christian leaders at a town hall meeting held at Eliel Center in Jos, organised by the Christian leaders in Plateau.

Osibanjo who said Buhari has no hidden intention to islamise the country also noted that if Buhari is of such character would have done it when he was the military head of state and when he had the ultimate power to do so, noting that during his time, he (Buhari) refused to register Nigeria as member of the Organization of Islamic Countries in those days.

Osibanjo further explained that at the event that the all the allegations castigating Buhari as a religious Bigot were issues of lies and at no point that Buhari said would introduce Sharia in Nigeria, describing the allegations as mere propaganda that has no basis by the PDP.

He said,” As preachers of the scripture we should believe in those who will serve his people faithfully and credibly.

He however reiterated that Buhari during his time he appointed out of his 19 military governors,19 were Christians, adding that everything was on the record.

He therefore called on Christians that religion should not be taken into consideration when it comes to leadership positions, telling the gathering that the pastors and other Christian leaders to dissociate religion with politics.

“Our Christian brothers should understand that they are supporting a fellow believer who is sincere and honest with other worshippers. The ruling government and PDP have adopted this sad divisive and false narrative as their strategy to prevent the inevitable change that our country and people desire and require and they have succeeded in making some of us victims of the tales which they have propagated and sell as gospel truth to gullible listeners.

“Our relationship must be governed by justice and fear of God toward ensuring that the people have leave in peace without mo¬lestation, it is the role of government to ensure that there is rule of law”. He condemned the N4.3 trillion purportedly spent in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency. On the issue of Islamising Nigeria, Osibanjo said General Muhammadu has never introduced any sharia law to Islamise Nigeria
