The wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has ordered the arrest of her Aide de Camp, Sani Baba-Inna, for allegedly obtaining funds in total of N2.5 billion from prominent public figures in her name but without her knowledge.

Baba-Inna, a Chief Superintendent of Police, was arrested on Friday and has not been sighted by her family since, Premium Times reported.

According to the report, the president’s wife had petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, accusing Baba-Inna of receiving huge sums totally N2.5 billion from prominent politicians and business people purportedly on her behalf but without bringing same to her knowledge.

She was said to have demanded in her petition that the policeman be compelled to produce the money.

However, the online newspaper quoted a source as saying that a search of the suspect’s house and bank accounts turned up nothing to justify the first lady’s petition.

“The IG said the matter must be investigated immediately and the house of the ADC was raided.

“Shockingly, investigators only found N1,200 cash in the House. His bank account was also investigated and had only a balance of N30,000 while the transaction records showed that most credits to the account were his salaries and allowances,” the source was quoted as saying.

It was further revealed that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris was named as one of those who donated the huge sums to Mrs Buhari.

But the police boss vehemently denied passing any such funds to the president’s wife through the suspect.

This was said to have been brought to Mrs Buhari’s knowledge, and she reportedly flared up, accusing the police of trying to protect one of their own.

The perceived reluctance of the police to take the matter as seriously as she wished was said to have led to the Department of State Services (DSS) wading into the matter.

The DSS was said to have taken custody of the policeman on Mrs Buhari’s order, an assertion the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya denied.

But the suspect’s wife, Hassana confirmed his arrest and detention, saying she “has not been able to speak with him since he was taken away”.
