APC Chieftain Gunned Down In Edo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Captain Samson Amineshi (rtd) has been assassinated by yet to be identified gunmen on Thursday evening in Akoko- Edo local government area of Edo state.

According to reports the retired Captain was shot along the Igarra-Okpe road when he was returning from Igarra, where he was said to have attended a social function.

He was said to be in his car with two other people when the gunmen flagged them down. Although he was said to have managed to evade the gunmen, his car ran into another ambush mounted ambush some metres away.

Different versions have it that the deceased asked the other occupants of the car to hide inside the car before the assailants opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. Unspecified amount of money was said to have been collected from the other occupants of the car.

However another version of the story said that the gunmen shot directly at him and sped off on a motorbike which they had parked close by.

The victim who was a former councillor in the council was believed to be preparing for forthcoming council election in the state.

Family sources said the matter has since been reported at the Igarra police station. But the state police Public Relations Officer, Stephen Onwochei could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
