A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has said that he would not lie against President Bola Tinubu despite personal animosity between them.

Omokri said this in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday.

He was speaking on the Chicago State University (CSU) saga that has bedevilled the president since he was sworn in on May 29.

The 2023 presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has applied to the courts in the United States seeking to obtain Tinubu’s academic records at CSU.

Omokri has maintained that his personal investigation showed that Tinubu attended and graduated from CSU, in spite of widely held belief that he did not.

Omokri, who said Tinubu ‘detests’ him, noted that this would not make him lie against the president.

“This idea that because I support Waziri Atiku Abubakar, I must lie and say President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not attend Chicago State University reflects the type of deficiency in our national character that has almost destroyed our institutions of state.

“So, I cannot tell the truth because it is against my interest and if I do, then it must mean I collected money.

“That is your trader mentality and culture, whereby you can sell your fathers for money. That is not the culture of the pedigree whose genes run in my blood.

“I don’t support Tinubu. I have never collected a dime from him. The man DETESTS me. But Scripture describes the man who will make God’s Kingdom as one who tells the truth even when it is NOT in his own interests-Psalm 15:4.”

He added, “I went to Chicago State University solely intending to expose Bola Tinubu as a liar. But when I got there, I was presented with documentary, pictorial and historical records that the male individual who is currently Nigeria’s President was admitted, attended, and graduated from Chicago State University.

“If you like, insult me. By tomorrow or thereabouts, you will understand that no matter how fast and far falsehood has travelled, it will always be overtaken by truth! And those journalists and TV stations who lied to Nigerians better get ready!”
