Ahead of the much awaited Manchester Derby that will be played on Sunday, City defender Alexsandar Kolarov claimed that City have been better than United for ‘the last five or six years, According to the Mirror.
Louis Van Gaal’s side are five places and five points behind third-placed City.
But while Serbian defender Kolarov insisted their rivals had to be treated with respect, he claimed there is a growing gap between the two clubs.
“It is a great game to watch or play in – I think every player in the world would like to play this game,” he told talkSPORT.
“United has a great history but in the last five or six years, I think we have been superior to them. It will be a great game to play.
“We have just started the season so we have plenty of time to put everything in our way. It is always difficult to win the Premier League but I think with Chelsea, we are the two main teams to win it.
“Obviously they have changed their manager and bought a lot of great players. I think they can do a good season in the Premier League but I think we are playing at home and we have to show that.”
Kolarov added: “Manchester United are always United. They are a great club with a great history and if you don’t respect them a lot they are going to beat you.
“You have to have a lot of respect for what they did. Obviously they have changed a lot of players and they are progressing now. I think it’s important that we win the derby.”
