Donald Tusk, European Council President, said European Union leaders would meet without British counterpart David Cameron on Wednesday to discuss “divorce process” with London after Britons voted to leave the bloc.

Tusk said on Friday in Brussels that letters have been written to leaders laying out the agenda for the long-scheduled meeting.

“The 28 leaders will meet to discuss the so-called divorce process.’’

He said focus would be on Article 50 of the EU treaty, which allowed a government to notify the European Union of its leaving and obliging the bloc to try to negotiate a “withdrawal agreement.”

Tusk said the 28 EU national leaders would hold a two-day summit from Tuesday afternoon in Brussels, while Cameron would brief the other 27.
“Cameron is then expected to return to London on Wednesday, while for the first time, the remaining 27 leaders will meet in a more informal format without him.

“The 27 will meet informally to discuss the political and practical implications of Brexit”, he said. (Reuters/NAN)
