The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to halt attacks on journalists and media organisations in the country.

SERAP made the appeal in a tweet on Thursday while condemning the attacks on some media organisations and journalists covering the EndSARS protests.

The organisation lamented the attack on Channels Television‘s Ayo Makinde and the burning of Television Continental (TVC) by thugs.

Hoodlums attacked Makinde, a Senior Anchor of the Morning Show Sunrise Daily while he was covering the attack on TVC by thugs on Wednesday.

The hoodlums invaded TVC located on  Aladelola Street, Ketu area of Lagos State and set it on fire.

In the tweet, SERAP said, “We condemn growing attacks by armed thugs on journalists and media houses covering peaceful protests across the country and urge President Buhari to immediately halt the attacks.

“Ayo Makinde of @channelstv is among those attacked while @TVCconnect has been set on fire.”

Meanwhile, policemen attached to the Lagos State House of Assembly brutalised two journalists with The Punch, Femi Dawodu and Segun Odunayo also on Wednesday.

No fewer than 20 policemen stripped the journalists, who were covering the protests in the Alausa area, and beat them up.
