Igbo Group Appeals to Shettima, Claims 200 Lives Lost to Insurgents

Igbo Welfare Association, an association of Igbo Indigenes from the five eastern states residing in Bornu has said that 200 Igbos have been killed in Bornu State as a result of the Boko Haram Insurgency and property worth millions of naira has been lost.

President-General of the association, Chief Maclaw Nwaogu made this statement in a speech during the inauguration of new executives and award ceremony in Maiduguri, Bornu State. The Chairman called on Bornu State Governor, Kashim Shettima to help Ndigbos affected by the insurgency.

Nwaogu said “It is pertinent to bring to your notice that internally displaced people of Igbo extraction are been catered for by Igbo Welfare Association. We are appealing to your government to help us remedy the situation.

“There is no gain saying the fact that the insurrection in the North-East has brought lull into our activities, but under this regime, working together with all and sundry will be given the needed boost.”
