June 12: Buhari Did The Right Thing But We’ll Vote Him Out – Fani-Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has mocked President Muhammadu Buhari for recognising June 12 as the nation’s new Democracy Day.

Fani-Kayode, the campaign spokesman for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, said Buhari deserved to be voted out despite doing “the right thing” with the declaration.

Fani-Kayode’s new position appeared a volte-face, after he initially endorsed the move.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle, he said, “If God can use a donkey to do the right thing in the Bible then he can use @MBuhari to do the right thing for MKO Abiola and June 12th.Those that are complaining about his gesture should desist from doing so.He did the right thing and we will reward him for it by voting him out.”

President Buhari, in a shocking announcement last Wednesday said June 12 had replaced May 29 as Democracy Day.

He is also set to bestow a posthumous Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) honour on Chief MKO Abiola, who won the nation’s freest and fairest election on June 12, 1993.

Also set to be honoured are Abiola’s vice presidential candidate, Amb. Babagana Kingibe and late human rights lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, who are to be honoured with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

The ceremony is set to hold at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja by 10am on Tuesday.
