Just In: Edo records first case of coronavirus – NCDC confirms

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says Edo state has recorded its first case of coronavirus.

The NCDC announced this on Monday via its verified Twitter handle. The centre said additional five cases of Coronavirus were recorded on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 35.

The tweet read: “Five new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: two in Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), two in Lagos State and one in Edo State.

“Two cases are returning travellers from the United Kingdom. As of 09:45 am on 23rd of March, there are 35 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Two have been discharged.”

Earlier, The Herald reported that former vice president and presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar announced that his son has been diagnosed with Coronavirus.

Atiku made the announcement via his Twitter handle @Atiku where he appealed to Nigerians to put him in their prayers.

“My son has tested positive to coronavirus. @NCDCGov has been duly informed, and he has been moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in Abuja for treatment and management. I will appreciate it if you have him in your prayers. Stay safe, coronavirus is real. -AA” he tweeted.

Nigeria now has 28 confirmed active cases of Coronavirus with 1300 suspected cases under surveillance.
