Lagos State Government denies suspending principal

The Lagos State government has denied reports that it suspended a principal over her alleged collusion with the media to bring to light the lack of basic infrastructure in the public primary school she was custodian of.

Several publications had published photos of the lack of basic infrastructure in the school, were students were forced to sit on blocks and window sills, as a result of basic infrastructure such as tables and chairs.

Punch newspapers reported that the teacher had been sacked for violating the State’s gag order which prohibits civil servants in the State from talking to the media.

However the State government debunked the report.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Aderemi Ibirogba,  said: “At no time did the state government place the Principal on suspension over a negative publication in a national daily or for any other reason.”

He said the principal was only summoned to enable government assess the true position of things.
