Workers of the Ministry of Finance today, Monday 20th June 2016 embarked on a protest demanding the removal of the Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun.

The workers protest according to gathered information came about as a result of the non-payment of their allowance which is estimated to be around N1.2 billion.

The protesting workers also accused the Finance Minister of collecting her own allowances without caring to fight for their rights.

Describing the protests as unwarranted, the Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Isa-Dutse, said the N1.2 billion which the workers were protesting for was an illegal payment that the workers have been receiving at the beginning of the year before now.

Addressing the protest, the Finance minister’s spokesman, Festus Akanbi said the amount workers were agitating for is illegal. he added that the only sum the government owes the protesting workers is their June salaries. He further added that the said amount was not captured in the nation’s 2016 budget hence the non-payment of the ‘illegal’ allowance.
