Nigeria’s top telecoms companies seem to have woken up to the importance of using top celebrities to sell their products. This is evident in the silent war the two major companies MTN and Glo are currently embroiled in.

MTN recently announced that stars including Davido, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, Sound Sultan, Iyanya, Chidinma, BankyW, KCee as well as Saka, Osuofia, Mama Gee and others all renewed their contracts with MTN. While the likes of Wizkid, Sean Tizzle, and Timaya will not be renewed.

Most people wondered why MTN would drop a mega star like Wizkid, But what we did not know was the fact that Glo had lured Wizkid over to their side with a better offer than he was receiving at MTN. And according to blogger Linda Ikeji, “Wizkid actually moved to Globacom 4 weeks ago after complaining that MTN was delaying payment and mostly because Glo offered him more to be their ambassador. He signed a 2-year deal with Glo said to be over N100million”

As for Sean Tizzle and Timaya, they were dropped because the company felt they were not getting enough value for their money even though Sean Tizzle and Timaya say otherwise.

Glo also dropped rappers Naeto C and Lynxxx and signed comedians Bovi, AY, actors Odunlade Adekola and OC Ukeje.

Airtel also revealed their own line up of celebrities. They include 2face Idibia, Phyno, Patoranking, Comedian Akpororo and On Air Personality(OAP) IK Osakioduwa while Etisalat have actress Genevieve Nnaji, actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim and rapper Olamide on their books.
